The Floors Should Match the Renovation
Maybe you're renovating an older home in a clean, modern style. New walls, new light, new details everywhere. Then you look down. The old floors don't match the rest of the house, and the stairs feel left behind.
Floors can be part of the plan. We've refinished hardwood floors across Fairfield County for over 15 years. That includes a whole house in north Darien, between Noroton Heights and Woodway Country Club.
Call us at (475) 203-6216 and we'll come see your floors. It costs nothing and you're not committing to anything. You'll get a straight answer.
Project Spotlight
Location: North Darien, Darien, CT
Home: Modern style
Service: Hardwood floor refinishing
Wood: White oak, 4-inch boards
Rooms: First floor, second floor, and stairs
Finish: Natural seal and Bona water-based finish
Project Result
Here is how the white oak floors turned out. These photos show the finished work only. They run through the house, from the first floor to the second floor and the stairs. The 4-inch white oak boards run through the kitchen, the dining area, the living rooms, a hallway and a bedroom.
Big windows and glass doors let the light move across the floor in several rooms, and one photo shows the oak stair railing and treads next to the living room. One room has a chevron pattern with a plank border around it, and it was part of the refinishing work too.
Working With the Architect
Floors in a renovated home need to agree with everything around them. On this job, we worked in partnership with the architect. Every detail of the floor was analyzed. That kind of planning matters most in a house where the old and the new meet. We refinished all of it: the first floor, the second floor, and the stairs. Doing the whole house at once means every wood surface gets the same treatment, so nothing looks like it belongs to a different house.
Serving Homeowners Across Darien and Fairfield County
North Darien is the part of town farthest from the waterfront and the downtown shops, known for a classic suburban feel and larger lots. Noroton Heights lies just to the south, with its Metro-North station and older, closely built streets. To the north is Woodway Country Club, which opened in 1918 on land that was once Woodway Farm.
We refinish floors all over Darien, from Noroton and Tokeneke to Long Neck and the downtown area. Older house or newly renovated one, every job starts the same way: we come see the floor first, no obligation.
A Bona Seal and a High-Traffic Water-Based Finish
The white oak was sanded and finished with a Bona natural seal and a Bona high-traffic water-based finish. A water-based finish is a clear coating. Bona is one of the finish brands we use on projects across Fairfield County.
FAQCan you refinish the floors in a whole house, stairs included?
1
Yes. We can sand and finish every wood floor in a house, stairs too. This Darien job covered the first floor, second floor, and stairs.
Doing it all together helps the floors match from room to room and from floor to floor.
Do you work with architects and designers on a floor?
2
Yes. On this Darien home, we worked in partnership with the architect, and every detail of the floor was analyzed.
If you have an architect or designer, we're glad to talk with them about the floor.
What is a water-based floor finish?
3
It's a clear protective coating that uses water instead of oil as its base. Many homeowners pick it for its clear look and lower odor.
We used a Bona high-traffic water-based finish on this project. Ask us which finish fits your home.
Do you refinish floors in north Darien and nearby towns?
4
