Your Garage Floor Isn't Too Far Gone

Oil stains that never scrub out. A chemical spill that leaves a permanent shadow on the concrete. Hairline cracks creeping out from a corner that's been bare too long. If your garage floor looks more like a liability than a finished space, you're not imagining it, bare concrete only gets worse from here, not better.

Eastwood Group has coated garage floors across Fairfield County for years, including homes near Weston's Kettle Creek crossroads and out along the Route 57/Georgetown Road corridor. Even a slab that's stained, cracked, and years overdue for attention can be ground down and restored, it's one of the more common repairs we handle, not a lost cause.

If your Weston garage floor needs the same treatment, call or text (475) 203-6216. No charge, no pressure, just a straight answer on what it'll take and what it'll cost.

The garage started as a stained, cracked slab, the kind of concrete that's absorbed years of oil drips and chemical spills and shows every bit of it. Before any coating could be applied, the entire floor got one full pass with a diamond angle grinder, cutting through the stained surface layer and grinding the cracks flush so the epoxy would have clean, properly profiled concrete to bond to. That grinder step is what separated this job from a standard epoxy application,

most garage floors just need a light grind or chemical etch, but this slab needed to be opened up first. Once the concrete was ground down, the rest of the job followed Eastwood's standard flake system: a grey base coat, a broadcast of dark blue, black, and white flakes, and a clear protective topcoat. The finished floor reads as a clean, uniform grey with a scattered dark blue, black, and white fleck pattern — no trace of the stains or cracks underneath.

Concrete Preparation

Most epoxy jobs start with a light grind or chemical etch to open the concrete's pores. This slab needed more. Oil and chemical stains had soaked deep into the surface, and a few cracks needed to be ground flush before leveling and epoxy could go down cleanly. One full pass with a diamond angle grinder cut through the stained top layer and left a clean, mechanically profiled surface for the base coat to bond to. It's the kind of extra step that turns up more often in Weston's older housing stock, garages attached to the kind of farmhouses and outbuildings found near the Aspetuck Historic District, where a slab has taken decades of wear before anyone gets around to coating it.

Flake Broadcast

While the base coat was still workable, a blend of dark blue, black, and white flakes was broadcast by hand across the surface. Beyond the finished look, the flake texture adds real grip underfoot, worth having on any Weston garage floor that spends the winter tracking in salt and slush off a long driveway.

Clear Epoxy Topcoat

A clear epoxy topcoat locked the flakes in place and sealed the whole system against future oil, grease, and salt exposure, the same kind of buildup that damaged the original concrete. With the grinder-prep step added in, the full job ran longer than Eastwood's typical 2-3 day flake install, but the sequence and cure times for the coating itself stayed standard.

FAQ

How much does garage epoxy flooring cost in Weston, CT?

1

A flake epoxy system typically runs around $9 per square foot, though the price rises when the concrete needs leveling, crack repair, or grinding before coating, as this project did.

A quick walkthrough of the existing slab is the best way to get an accurate number before work starts.

Does a stained or cracked garage floor need special prep before epoxy?

2

Yes. Concrete with deep oil or chemical stains and existing cracks usually needs a full diamond-grinder pass to open the surface before any coating can properly bond.

Skipping this step on a damaged slab is one of the most common reasons an epoxy coating fails early.

Most flake epoxy garages are finished in about 2-3 days when the concrete is already in good shape, though extra prep like grinding or leveling adds time.

This project ran longer than that typical window specifically because of the grinder-prep step needed before coating could begin.

Will epoxy flooring hold up to a Weston winter?

4

Yes. A fully cured epoxy flake system resists road salt, de-icing chemicals, and oil far better than bare concrete, which absorbs and stains under all of it.

That resistance is exactly what prevents the kind of staining and cracking this project needed to correct in the first place.
