The garage started as a stained, cracked slab, the kind of concrete that's absorbed years of oil drips and chemical spills and shows every bit of it. Before any coating could be applied, the entire floor got one full pass with a diamond angle grinder, cutting through the stained surface layer and grinding the cracks flush so the epoxy would have clean, properly profiled concrete to bond to. That grinder step is what separated this job from a standard epoxy application,
most garage floors just need a light grind or chemical etch, but this slab needed to be opened up first. Once the concrete was ground down, the rest of the job followed Eastwood's standard flake system: a grey base coat, a broadcast of dark blue, black, and white flakes, and a clear protective topcoat. The finished floor reads as a clean, uniform grey with a scattered dark blue, black, and white fleck pattern — no trace of the stains or cracks underneath.
Concrete Preparation
Most epoxy jobs start with a light grind or chemical etch to open the concrete's pores. This slab needed more. Oil and chemical stains had soaked deep into the surface, and a few cracks needed to be ground flush before leveling and epoxy could go down cleanly. One full pass with a diamond angle grinder cut through the stained top layer and left a clean, mechanically profiled surface for the base coat to bond to.
